The Story of our 1908 Galloway Farm Truck
The adventure started in June 2005
We
found the rusted frame, engine and hub cabs a few miles from our
home. After a few weeks of research, we discovered we had a treasure; A
1908-1911 Galloway Farm Truck, manufactured in Waterloo,
Iowa. Supposedly there are only very few left in the country. Bob
started restoration by first replacing the steel frame and trying to get
it as original as possible. The frame had to be hot ribbed, then wooden
spokes were made for the wheels which also have wooden and steel rims,
then mounted on hard rubber. The mounting of the hard rubber was done
by the Amish.
We
have taken trips to other parts of the country hunting for parts and
taking pictures. Now that the four wheels are mounted and the body
built, it resembles a buckboard wagon; lots of brass with the radiator,
kerosene lamps and horn. The water-cooled opposed 2-cylinder engine has
been overhauled and will not be started until the chain drive and other
required parts are found (or made) and installed
